Water Baptism

A public declaration of your new life in Christ

What is Water Baptism?

Water baptism is an outward symbol of an inward transformation. When you go under the water, it represents your old self dying and being buried with Christ. When you come up out of the water, it represents being raised to new life in Him.

What Baptism Represents:

Going Under

Your old self dies and is buried with Christ. The person you were before salvation is gone.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Coming Up

You are raised to walk in newness of life. You are a new creation in Christ!

Romans 6:4

Is Baptism Required for Salvation?

No, baptism is not required for salvation. Salvation is by grace through faith alone (Ephesians 2:8-9). Baptism is an act of obedience that follows salvation—it doesn't cause salvation.

This man had no opportunity for water baptism, yet he was saved by faith alone. His story shows us that salvation is by grace through faith, not by works or rituals.

Why Get Baptized Then?

  • Jesus commanded it (Matthew 28:19)
  • It's an act of obedience — showing you're serious about following Christ
  • Public declaration — telling the world you belong to Jesus
  • Symbolic burial and resurrection — visually acting out your new life
  • Follows the example of Jesus — He was baptized (Matthew 3:13-17)

How to Get Baptized

Baptism should be done by full immersion (going completely under the water), as this best represents burial and resurrection. Here's how:

  1. 1

    Find a Bible-Believing Church

Contact a local church that teaches salvation by grace through faith. Ask about their baptism schedule.

  2. 2

    Share Your Testimony

Tell the pastor when you accepted Christ and your desire to be baptized. Most churches will ask for a brief testimony.

  3. 3

    Schedule Baptism

Churches typically baptize during regular services or special baptism events. Wear appropriate clothing (many churches provide baptism shirts).

  4. 4

    Be Immersed

The pastor will lower you completely under the water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. You'll come up dry on the other side—symbolizing new life!
