Rebuke Lies and Fear

Spirits will attack with lies then fear—learn to recognize and overcome

The Attack Pattern

After deliverance, spirits will often return with lies first (“you’re not really free,” “that prayer didn’t work,” “you’re still cursed”), followed by fear, anxiety, and depression. Recognizing this pattern is key to overcoming it.

How to Rebuke

1

Identify the Lie

“That thought is not from God. It’s a lie from the enemy.”

Not every thought is yours. The enemy injects thoughts into your mind to deceive you.

2

Speak the Truth

Immediately counter with Scripture: “But God’s Word says I am free in Christ (John 8:36). I am a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). I have been delivered from the kingdom of darkness (Colossians 1:13).”

3

Command the Spirit

“Spirit of fear/lying/depression, I rebuke you in Jesus’ name. You have no authority over me. I command you to leave now and never return!”

Use your authority as a believer (Mark 16:17). Speak out loud with confidence.

4

Stand Firm

Do not entertain the thought. Treat it like an unwelcome visitor—do not dialogue with it. Keep your mind on God’s Word.

The moment you start debating with a lie, you’ve given it territory in your mind.

Practical Steps

Keep Scripture Handy

Keep a list of Scriptures handy (on your phone or written) that speak against common attacks. When a lie comes, quote that Scripture out loud. The Word of God is the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17)—wield it!

Resistance is active. You must consciously reject the enemy’s suggestions and choose to believe God instead. This is not passive—it’s a fight of faith.
