How Jesus Defends Us in Heaven

Our Advocate before the Father

Hebrews 4:14-16, Hebrews 7:23-28, Hebrews 9:24, 1 John 2:1, Romans 8:34

Jesus Our High Priest

Once the blood of Jesus paid the price of sins, Jesus Himself entered the Holy of Holies to be in front of God — like the old High Priests of the Old Testament.

Understanding His Work in Heaven

1. Jesus is in the REAL Holy of Holies

  • The earthly Holy of Holies was just a copy
  • Jesus is in the real Holy of Holies — the presence of God in heaven

2. Jesus is Our High Priest

  • Old Testament High Priests entered the holy place once a year with animal blood
  • Jesus enters directly with God by His own perfect blood
  • He doesn't need to sacrifice again — His blood is eternal and perfect

3. Jesus Advocates for Us

  • Jesus steps in for us and explains to God our weaknesses
  • He understands us because He Himself was a human
  • He lived on earth, faced temptations, knows our struggles
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tested in every way as we are, yet without sin.”
— Hebrews 4:15 (CSB)

4. The Result

  • When we sin, Jesus intercedes for us
  • He presents His blood as payment for our sins
  • We have permanent forgiveness through His advocacy

Scripture Foundation

Hebrews 4:14-16 (CSB)

“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens—Jesus the Son of God—let us hold fast to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tested in every way as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.”

Hebrews 7:23-28

“Now many have become Levitical priests, since they are prevented by death from remaining in office. But because He remains forever, He holds His priesthood permanently. Therefore, He is always able to save those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them. For this is the kind of high priest we need: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. He doesn't need to offer sacrifices every day, as high priests do—first for their own sins, then for those of the people. He did this once for all time when He offered Himself. For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak, but the promise of the oath, which came after the law, appoints a Son, who has been perfected forever.”

Hebrews 9:24

“For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with hands (only a model of the true one) but into heaven itself, so that He might now appear in the presence of God for us.”

1 John 2:1

“My little children, I am writing you these things so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ the righteous One.”

Romans 8:34

“Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is the One who died, but even more, has been raised; He also is at the right hand of God and intercedes for us.”

“We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
